The Spring Cleaning COVID Reading and Listening List

This is from the week COVID finally hit my house. Rhiannon and the kids are now recovered. I’m a couple of days out from looking for the truck that ran me over. So in lieu of a thoughtfully penned newsletter, I thought I’d share a few previously written/recorded pieces.

Spring is here (even if there’s snow on the ground here in Calgary as I write this), so spring cleaning comes to mind. Maybe it’s a good time to consider which things we want to keep in our lives/work, which problems we want to commit to solving, and which things it’s time to kick to the curb.

With that, Let’s go!

[Read] Accept or Change

“When something isn’t working, we have a choice. We can either accept things as they are, or we can do something different. By choosing to pivot, I cleared up 98% of my problems for the next ten years.”

If you’re stewing in frustration or sitting on the fence about something, this blog post from October might help you make a decision about how to go forward.

[Listen] The Game Plan with Jay Kapoor

“The essence of an entrepreneur is to recognize a problem, realize you're the best person to solve it, then get to work solving it.”

Which problem(s) are you going to really commit to solving in your life and work? In this podcast episode, Jay and I discuss the nature of entrepreneurship, pivoting, and building something new. Check it out: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/unit3d/id1505114669?i=1000554813088

[Read] Energy Dragging? Here’s how I snapped out of it.

Every day I take a little bit of pride in my IKEA shelves. (If you see me over Zoom I just might point them out.)

This blog was one of my least clicked posts from 2021, but I’m still proud of those damn IKEA shelves! If you have a nagging thing that’s been sitting on your to-do list, maybe this is a good time to get one of them done… and then celebrate the heck out of it, because why not?

[Listen] Huberman Lab Podcast

This has nothing to do with me, I just really enjoy this podcast and it’s helped me understand a lot of things better, or from a more scientific perspective. It contains lots of good stuff related to mindset, goal setting, habit setting, trauma, health, sport science, and more.  Find all the episodes here: https://hubermanlab.com

BONUS [Purchased Read] Fueled By Failure: Using Detours and Defeats to Power Progress, Jeremy Bloom
Longtime friend, Olympian, and Entrepreneur Jeremy Bloom, a regular (or at least once in a blue moon!) reader of this newsletter, just announced the acquisition of his marketing company, Integrate. I couldn’t be more excited for Jeremy and can’t wait to see what comes next. You can get your hands on his 2015 book, Fueled By Failure: Using Detours and Defeats to Power Progress, on Amazon here

That’s it for now. Thanks for reading. Stay safe and healthy.
